Washi tape background – Challenge accepted

Washi Tape Background

One of my sideline- Monica proposed a challenge when we were sitting at our upline’s New Catalog launch. After a discussion of how to use up all the Washi we seem to collect. She proposed a Washi tape Background challenge. And then said she would get the ball rolling. This morning, Monica posted her take on a Full background of Washi Tape. Since I was in my Craft room making cards with my 5 yr old granddaughter, I accepted her challenge. Caitlin and I both made Washi Tape background cards.

Starting out with a diagonal strip of washi tape, I laid the washi on a piece of Whisper white in a perpendicular grid. After covering the front of the cardstock with washi tape, I decided to trim the card to 4″ by 5¼”. Next I added this background to a Pool Party side folding card base. With the base done, I was left with deciding what stamps and sentiments to use to embellish the card with. Because I  used a Viking dragon washi tape along with my Stampin Up retired Washi tapes, I grabbed my new Magical Mermaid Stamp set and set to work. In addition to using the large mermaid as the focal art piece, I stamped the “I’ll never stop believing in you” on Vellum cardstock in Tranquil Tide ink. It  is a great sentiment of encouragement.

But the sentiment got lost in the washi. So I added a layer of Lemon lime twist cardstock underneath. As a final touch, I placed 2 small round silver metallic enamel shapes on either side of the sentiment. As bright as the lemon lime twist color is; when placed behind Velum it looks totally different. The Lots of Labels Framelits  gave the sentiment a perfect frame. To top it off, the whole card took less than 40 minutes from challenge to completion.

She had so much fun creating this card. At 5  the process is far more important than the finished product. Once she had completed the washi portion and placed it on a cardbase- she was done. Oh, to be 5 again!
