Fun Playful Pockets – Stamp Club 2017

Playful pockets set

Polly requested the Pocketful of Sunshine Stamp set and die bundle as our focus for July 2017. Because of this I designed a box and two cards of playful pockets for us to make at stamp Club. Then I lay the stamp sets on my craft table and started to play. By the time I was done I had designed 3 more cards all using something new. We created a feminine card, a masculine card and a cute pocket box.

Playful Pockets for Girls

Flowers and lace adorn this pocket and the card it is on. First place a layer of the Delightful Daisy Designer Paper onto your Daffodil Delight Cardbase. Next stamp your pocket stitching on a piece of Peekaboo PeachCardstock  using Peekaboo peach ink. Then stamp the scallop detail stitching on the pocket. Stamp the sentiment using Calypso Coral ink. Now die cut the pocket. Burnish the score lines well. Cut a doily in half and make a few folds so it looks ruffled. Place adhesive along the back of the top edge of the pocket. Carefully lay your lace on the adhesive securing it in place. Now place your adhesive on the flaps and secure the pocket to your card.

At this point you should stamp your sunglasses on Calypso Coral cardstock using Old olive ink. After you die cut out the sunglasses, add a small rhinestone to the screw on the glasses that will show when they are in the pocket. To hold the glasses in place, attach a stampin dimensional to the back of the lens outside the pocket. Next use Wink of Stella to give the word ‘dazzle’ some glitz. Finally add 3 small enamel accents to the pocket. I used 2 small circles and a heart.

Playful Pockets for Boys

Playful pockets - maleAfter all the glitz, I needed a card for the men in our lives. I like the concept of sunglasses in the pocket so for this card I used Cajun Craze cardstock with old olive ink for the sunglasses. Another fun element in this stamp set is the sun with individual rays. In order to make my sun just a bit more special I punched out a starburst circle from Daffodil Delight cardstock. Then I stamped the rays with pumpkin pie ink and die cut them out. You get 5 rays in one die cut- super cool! This time I die cut the pocket from a piece of Delightful Daisy designer series paper and created my card from layers of  cardstock. For the sentiment, my cardstock was Pear Pizzazz and the ink was Old Olive. Finally I die cut the stamped sentiment with a banner die from the Large numbers Framelits.

Playful Pockets Box

This stamp set made me think of Denim Jeans so of course I just had to make my box from Dapper Denim Cardstock. Here’s how I did it.

Prep your Pieces

First die cut 3 pockets. Next cut a 1″ by 7½” piece of cardstock. On one pocket score at ½” and 1½” from the top of the pocket. Then stamp pocket outline stitching on all 3 pockets. Next on the pocket you scored – stamp the straight stitches, centering the on the 2 score lines. Now trim away the flaps on the pocket with the extra stitching (this will be your box flap). At this point, Stamp a snap on the pocket at the point with Versa mark ink and emboss with copper embossing powder. Score the 1″ strip at 2¼”, 3¾” and 5¼”. Finally burnish all the score lines well.

Putting it together

First place strong adhesive on ½” panel of pocket flap close to the double stitching (tear-n-tape recommended). Then attach flap to back pocket. Afterward attach Tear-n-tape to the front and back panels. (see tape placement below)Now place a corner  of the scored strip flush with the pocket tops and adhere the strip to the front and back pockets going around the edges one side at a time. Last attach a velcro dot or magnet closure to the underside of the pocket flap to keep it together. In order to embellish the pocket I took a scrap of whisper white and stamped the ‘For you’  which I cut out and added to the pocket edge. Finally the main sentiment was stamped on a strip of whisper white, fish tailed the ends and added to the box with stampin Dimensionals.
